We were all directly impacted by the devastation that hit our coast with Super Storm Sandy; whether it hit our own homes, our friends’ homes, our families' homes, or it just broke our hearts. This disaster has hit way too close to home for us as the wrath of Sandy has caused surging oceans to engulf our neighborhoods along with wind, fire, and flooding that have left homes in mere pieces. No matter the circumstance, we were all deeply affected by this horrific tragedy.
Weeks later, tens of thousands are still left in the dark without electricity, thousands are homeless as their houses were completely demolished, and estimates of the damages continue to rise well over $50 billion. The effects are still being felt and the true impact is still being absorbed today. Although Sandy slammed our shores and wreaked havoc on our neighbors, it's now time to recover. It is time to rebuild. As residents of the tri-state area, we have an obligation to unite for those who took the brunt of Sandy's wrath.
Your local United States Women's National Team Players and the Philadelphia Union stepped up to help the east coast. This region has been our place to call home, a place to grow up and a place that we love. Throughout our careers we have received constant support from our friends, family, and neighbors who have all been affected by Sandy. Now it was our turn to give back to that community.
Everyone was invited to attend the Kick-Start the Rebuild Soccer Clinic presented by 1MINDSET and conducted by your local U.S. Women’s National Team players and the Philadelphia Union. The clinic was hosted by United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, PA, on December 16th. The clinic featured many games, contests, and technical skill work, but participants were able to meet and greet with all the players, attend Q & A, receive autographs and partake in a silent auction.
All proceeds from this event go directly to the Habitat for Humanity's Disaster Response Team. The Disaster Response team has the responsibility to assess the damage to affected homes and communities in order to determine the housing need and available resources. Thanks to everyone that participated and contributed to Kick-Start the Rebuild. Our combined efforts made an immediate impact on those victims who need our love and support.
